# The schedule

> The weekly publishing grid: the shapes you publish in, how a piece gets a slot, and what happens when a publish fails.

**Schedule** is the week you are publishing. One grid answers *what goes out, on
what day, in what shape* — there is no second calendar to keep in step with it.

The page title tells you how many pieces the week holds. Beside it are arrows
for the previous and next week, the week's dates, a **Today** button, and **New
piece**.

## Reading the grid

**Columns are the days** of the week, Monday through Sunday.

**Rows are the shapes you publish in** — Posts, Stories, Shorts & clips, Long
form. Each row names how many you planned for the week and what belongs in it:

The count is a plan, not a limit — a row over its number simply says so.

Where a day and a row meet you get either the pieces sitting there or an **Add**
button. A piece shows its name, small icons for the platforms it is going out
on (or *no platforms yet*), its state, and its time.

## Adding a piece

Two routes, and they end in the same place:

* **Add**, in the day and row you want. The piece is created there.
* **New piece**, in the header, then choose the shape: Posts, Stories, Shorts &
  clips, Long form, or Email & SMS.

You can also just ask Goosy to plan the week for you and review what he puts on
the grid.

## Opening a piece

Click a piece and it opens over the grid, with its own link — so you can reload,
bookmark or send it and land back on the same piece. It is laid out in the order
you work through it:

1. **Source** — where the piece came from.
2. **Where it goes** — the platforms it is bound for.
3. **The post** — the piece itself.
4. **Platform versions** — one per platform, each sized and written for its
   home, with the aspect ratio it will use and the account it will publish to.
   The header counts how many are ready.
5. **Schedule** — the day and time, in your own timezone. Everything goes out
   together unless you stagger one.
6. **Approve** — one approval covers every platform on the piece.

## When a publish fails

A band above the grid appears when something did not go out. It names the
platform, the time it was due, and what happened.

Today the only action there is **Cancel** — retrying a failed publish from this
band is not available yet, and the page says so rather than offering a button
that does nothing. Cancel it and re-create the piece when you are ready.

Failed publishes also show up on
[your dashboard](/work/home) as a **Publish check** waiting on you.

## On a phone

The grid is not shrunk down. Below tablet width the page shows **one day at a
time**, with that day's rows stacked under it and arrows to step through the
days. The week arrows and **Today** still work as they do on a wide screen.
