# Knowledge

> What Goosy reads about your brand and market, and how to add to it.

**Knowledge** is what Goosy reads to understand your brand and your market:
your own videos, your competitors, the articles, links and feeds that describe
the space you sell into. Everything you bring in shapes what he knows when he
researches and writes, so this list shows up directly in the quality of what
comes out.

Open it from **Settings → Knowledge**.

## Add a source

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose Add source">
    The control sits in the page header, and again on the empty list.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick the source type">
    Five kinds, and the form changes to match:

    * **YouTube video** — a link to a specific video. Its transcript is pulled
      in, so the words spoken in it become readable material.
    * **Web page or article** — any page worth reading.
    * **RSS feed** — a source that keeps producing, rather than one page.
    * **Competitor handle** — an account you want tracked.
    * **Subreddit** — a community where your market talks.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name it and paste the link">
    The name is a short label you will recognise later — "Competitor channel —
    Acme" rather than the raw title. Then paste the link and add it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Sources belong to the workspace you are in. Add a competitor to one brand's
workspace and it stays there.

## What to put in it

Add the things you would hand a new hire on their first day:

* **Competitors** — the channels and videos you measure yourself against.
* **Your own best work** — pages, posts and videos that already sound right.
* **Market material** — articles, feeds and reference pages that explain the
  space you sell into.
* **Anything you keep re-explaining.** If you have typed the same background
  into a request twice, it belongs here instead.

Quality beats volume. A short list that genuinely represents your brand is
worth more than everything you could find, because everything you add is
material Goosy may draw on.

## How it reaches what gets made

You do not attach sources to a request. Goosy searches your knowledge while he
works and draws on what is relevant to what you asked for. That is the whole
mechanism, and it is why the list is worth curating: adding something puts it
in reach, and taking it out puts it beyond reach.

## Keeping the list honest

Pause a source when it stops representing you — an old positioning page, a
competitor you no longer track, a video that is out of date. **Pause** sits on
the source's row; a paused source stays in your list, marked **Paused**, and
stops being read from that point on. It does not change anything already made
from it. Adding the same source again turns it back on.
