# Defaults and timezone

> What Goosy assumes when you don't choose, and the clock your workspace works to.

**Settings → Defaults** is what Goosy assumes when you do not choose — and the
clock this workspace works to. Every piece can still override a default; the
timezone is the one thing here that changes what a time *means*.

## Generation defaults

Four choices, each with a **Clear (use built-in)** option to put it back.

| **Video format**      | Which format a new video starts from.             |
| **Render mode**       | Speed against polish for first drafts.            |
| **Thumbnail profile** | The look new thumbnails iterate from.             |
| **Email type**        | What "new email" means unless you pick otherwise. |

A row that reads **Not ready to choose yet** has nothing to offer you — that
choice is not open on this workspace yet, and the row says so rather than
showing an empty list. A saved value that is no longer available still shows,
marked **unavailable**, so it is never hidden from you; clear it to fall back to
the built-in.

<Note>
  **Nearest choice wins.** A setting on the piece beats these defaults, and
  these beat the built-ins. Changing a default never rewrites drafts you have
  already made.

## Style dials

Formality, Energy and Humor appear on this screen **read-only**, marked *from
voice seed*. They shape tone across every draft, and you change them where they
are set: **Brand → Voice**.

## Timezone

The **Timezone** row in Settings brings you to the same screen, at the timezone
card.

This is the clock this workspace works to — what "Tuesday at 9" means when Goosy
schedules something. Pick a zone from the list, or leave it on **Use each
person's own**.

* With a workspace timezone set, scheduled work is planned against that clock.
  Everybody on the workspace is looking at the same Tuesday at 9.
* With no workspace clock set, every person sees times in their own, and the
  screen tells you that is what is happening.

<Warning>
  Set this before you schedule anything, not after. A publishing slot means a
  moment in time; changing the clock underneath a schedule you already built is
  the hard way to find that out.

<Note>
  Timezone is per workspace, like the rest of this screen. If you run several
  workspaces, each keeps its own clock — a client in another country gets their
  own without touching yours.

## Who can change these

Generation defaults take an owner or admin. So does the timezone: it runs on the
permission that covers a workspace's settings, which owners and admins hold and
no screen hands to a member today — **Settings → Account** grants only the
account-wide automations and connections permissions.
