# Usage

> Reading the credit ledger — what you used this month, which workspace used it, what each entry means, and what draws on credits in the first place.

**Settings → Usage** answers one question: where did the credits go. It is
read-only — nothing here changes anything — and it covers one calendar month at
a time.

## What the top of the page tells you

Two summaries sit above the ledger.

**Used this month** is the total drawn down so far in the month you are looking
at. Move to a closed month and it names that month instead, because "so far" is
only true of the current one.

**By workspace** splits the same total between the workspaces that spent it,
heaviest first. The bars compare workspaces with each other, not with the
month's total, so the question they answer is *who used the most*.

## Credit activity

The ledger underneath is every grant, top-up and use, newest first.

| Column | What it holds |
| ------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **When** | The date and time, in your own timezone. |
| **What** | What happened, in plain words — *Generated images*, *Voiced something in your brand voice*, *Published your work*, *Credit top-up*, *Plan credits added*. |
| **Workspace** | Which workspace it belongs to. Account-level entries, such as a top-up, show a dash. |
| **Credits** | A minus for something used, a plus for something added. |

The foot of the list says which month you are reading and links to **Earlier
months**. A month page is a real address, so you can reload it or send it to
someone and they see the same month.

## Limits

Beside the ledger heading you may see one or more limit chips — live retrieval
calls today, voice characters this hour, image or video generations this month.
They read the same figures the product itself enforces on, so what you see here
cannot disagree with what stopped you.

They are **set by your account team**, which is why there is no control next to
them. A chip that has reached its limit says so and says that use is paused
until the window resets.

## What draws on credits

Generation does: images, clips, videos and voice. Bigger jobs use more, because
they are more work.

**Publishing what you approve does not.** Sending an approved piece out is
included, so the review-and-publish half of the product never costs you credits.

## Reading a month honestly

Two things are worth keeping straight when a month looks heavy:

* **A single long render can dominate a month.** One video is not comparable to
one image, and the ledger's plain-language entries are there so you can see
which is which without decoding anything.
* **Credits added and credits used are in the same list.** A month with a large
positive entry near the top is a top-up or a plan grant, not spend.

## If the number is a surprise

Start with **By workspace** — a workspace you are not watching is the usual
explanation on a multi-workspace account. Then read the heaviest entries in the
ledger.

If what you want is to stop being surprised rather than to explain one month,
the setting for that is **Spending & approvals** under **Settings → Account**:
it decides how much Goosy does on his own before checking with you. See
[How approvals work](/how-approvals-work).

Buying credits and reading the balance live on
[Plan and billing](/account/plan-and-billing).
