# Accounts and workspaces

> The two words the product uses for the containers your work lives in, and what to check first when something seems to be missing.

Most confusing moments in Goosy Bear are really vocabulary moments: two people
using one word for two different things. There are only two words to learn, and
the screens use them consistently.

## Your account

Your **account** is the thing that has a plan, a credit balance and a bill.
Everything else hangs off it: the people you work with, the workspaces they work
in, and the record of what has happened.

You rename it under **Settings → Account**. Its name is not usually on screen:
the pill at the top left of the header carries the workspace you are in, and the
account sits quietly behind it.

If you can reach more than one account, the account name is drawn to the left of
that pill on screens wider than a phone, so you can always see which one you are
working in.

You can belong to more than one account — someone who works across several
companies often does. Moving between them changes everything you see.

## Workspaces

A **workspace** is one business, brand or client inside your account. It has its
own voice, its own look, its own connected channels and its own body of work.

An account can hold several. They do not share their material: what is made in
one is not visible in another and does not teach another. That is on purpose,
and it is the whole reason workspaces exist.

Most people have exactly one workspace and never have to think about the word.

### Switching between them

The workspace you are in is named in the pill at the top left of the header.
Click it to switch. Everything on the screen follows — the schedule, the review
queue, the library, the settings.

### Seeing them all

**Settings → Account** has a **Workspaces** section listing every workspace on
the account, each with the short name it goes by and a **Manage** button. One of
them is marked **primary** — that is the one you land in.

### Adding one

The same section has **Add a workspace**, which hands the job to Goosy. He asks
what the business is and sets it up with you rather than making you fill in a
form first.

## When something is "missing"

This is the single most common thing people write in about, and it usually is
not missing.

Check, in this order:

1. **Which workspace are you in?** Content, settings, channels and knowledge all
belong to one workspace. Something made in another one will not appear here.
2. **Is it waiting on a decision?** Work that is finished but not approved sits
in [Review](/work/reviews) rather than going out. See
   [How approvals work](/how-approvals-work).
3. **Is it scheduled rather than published?** The
[Schedule](/work/schedule) shows what is going out and when.

If none of those explain it, ask support — and see below for the one sentence
that saves a round of questions.

## People sit on the account, not the workspace

You invite people into the **account**, and they hold a role there. Roles decide
what someone may **do**; approval gates decide what has a **consequence**. Both
apply, always — see [People and roles](/account/people-and-roles).

Two things follow that surprise people:

* Someone with wide permissions still cannot publish, spend or delete without
the approval step. That is not a missing permission, and it is not a fault.
* One specific permission can be given to a person, or taken from them, without
changing their role. So "we have the same role" does not always mean "we can
  do the same things".

## Saying which, when you ask for help

If you are describing a problem, name the workspace you were in and the account
it belongs to. That one sentence usually removes a whole round of questions,
because it tells whoever is helping you exactly which box to open.
